چکیده

We investigate the learnability, under the uniform distribution, of neural concepts that can be represented as simple combinations of nonoverlapping perceptrons (also called μ perceptrons) with binary weights and arbitrary thresholds. Two perceptrons are said to be nonoverlapping if they do not share any input variables. Specifically, we investigate, within the distribution-specific PAC model, the learnability of μ perceptron unions, decision lists , and generalized decision lists . In contrast to most neural network learning algorithms, we do not assume that the architecture of the network is known in advance. Rather, it is the task of the algorithm to find both the architecture of the net and the weight values necessary to represent the function to be learned. We give polynomial time algorithms for learning these restricted classes of networks. The algorithms work by estimating various statistical quantities that yield enough information to infer, with high probability, the target concept. Because the algorithms are statistical in nature, they are robust against large amounts of random classification noise.

Learning Heterogeneous Functions from Sparse and Non-Uniform Sample

A boosting-based method for centers placement in radial basis function networks (RBFN) is proposed. Also, the influence of several methods for drawing random samples on the accuracy of RBFN is examined. The new method is compared to trivial, linear and non-linear regressors including the multilayer Perceptron and alternative RBFN learning algorithms and its advantages are demonstrated for learn...

Investigating the performance of machine learning-based methods in classroom reverberation time estimation using neural networks (Research Article)

Classrooms, as one of the most important educational environments, play a major role in the learning and academic progress of students. reverberation time, as one of the most important acoustic parameters inside rooms, has a significant effect on sound quality. The inefficiency of classical formulas such as Sabin, caused this article to examine the use of machine learning methods as an alternat...

On Learning µ-Perceptron Networks with Binary Weights

Neural networks with binary weights are very important from both the theoretical and practical points of view. In this paper, we investigate the learnability of single binary perceptrons and unions of μ-binary-perceptron networks, i.e. an “OR” of binary perceptrons where each input unit is connected to one and only one perceptron. We give a polynomial time algorithm that PAC learns these networ...

Perceptron, Winnow, and PAC Learning

We analyze the performance of the widely studied Perceptron andWinnow algorithms for learning linear threshold functions under Valiant’s probably approximately correct (PAC) model of concept learning. We show that under the uniform distribution on boolean examples, the Perceptron algorithm can efficiently PAC learn nested functions (a class of linear threshold functions known to be hard for Per...
